Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes is one more in the Pete the Cat series. Pete and his friend Gus make cupcakes for a party and then the cupcakes start to go missing. Who could have taken the cupcakes?

I like that the graphics are simply done without a lot of fanfare. The colors are bright and saturated but there isn’t too much to take in. With that said, I did not like that the writing switched back and forth from rhyming to not rhyming. It made the text feel a bit jumbled and stilted, and it didn’t flow well when reading it aloud.

Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes is a cute tale. Kids will like it because because Pete is a familiar character and they get to solve a mystery. Adults will like this book because it’s a fast read and has a good message about forgiveness and inclusivity.
