The Flyaway Kite
Author: Jane Carruth
Illustrator: Tony Hutchings
Age: Preschool-2nd
The Flyaway Kite is a story about Hoppity the bunny, who is so impatient to fly his brother’s kite that he grabs it and then quickly gets it tangled in a tree.
This book belongs in the “A Happy Ending Book” series, so the illustrations might look familiar as the characters are drawn in a similar manner throughout all the books in the series.
I like the anthropomorphic style of drawing the animals and I like the moral of making right the wrongs you’ve done, but I did feel it was overly simplistic in the writing. That’s not a bad thing for kids but may get repetitive for the adults reading this book out loud.
Children will like this story because they can relate to the impetuous nature of Hoppity and adults will like this book because it conveys a “teamwork makes the dream work” attitude.
