The Hiccupotamus
Author: Aaron Zenz
Illustrator: Aaron Zenz
Age: 3-5 years
The Hiccupotamus is a delightful story about a hippopotamus who has a severe case of the hiccups. The hippo goes all over the neighborhood causing mayhem by startling other animals with his hiccups.
Now, this is a rhyming book and basically everything that rhymes is not an actual word (miracle/severacle) so if that bothers you then this book is not for you! However, if you read children’s picture books you can most likely look past that or at the very least appreciate how hard it is to rhyme certain words.
I really liked the illustrations and how they fit the story so well. There is a page at the end of the book that is almost like a mini biography blurb for all the characters we met in the story. Their bios are pretty clever and I like how they were included.
Children will laugh at this book because of the silly rhymes and the great illustrations. Adults will like this story because it applauds the value of teamwork.
